Turning your Passions into Profit

I had the pleasure of spending some time with Martha and Janice in Augusta, GA.  They had invited me to join them for private training and coaching. Martha and her husband started a furniture store 37 years ago and Janice has worked with her over 25 years.  Between the two of them they have created 1000's of beautiful homes. We talked about the fact that the hardest part is establishing a fair price for your talents and intellectual property.

Martha later told me about about a strawberry cake that is made by a local bakery and sells for an outrageous price of $53.  Now we are talking about a simple two layer cake with a cream cheese frosting that ships all over the country for this sum.  As Martha said, "how could anyone charge that much for a cake?  How could any cake be worth that much?" and in the next breath, she exclaimed, "I have to get me one!"  We all had strawberry cake, it was good. Was it the best cake I ever had?  No, but the interesting part was that this baker created a perceived value of this cake that they can hardly keep it on the shelves.  The baker  BELIEVED the cake and the intellectual property, (the recipe) was worth that much.

How about you?  Do you believe in your talents and abilities?  Do you charge enough that the world believes you must be something if you can charge that much?   Value yourself and the world will value you as well.  I don't mean being full of your self but I do mean having a healthy amount of self esteeem and pride and believing that you are the "best straweberry cake" around.  So how much is your "Strawberry cake?"
